Stress is not always negative. Positive stress allows us to act, think, move and respond to situations with purpose. We wouldn't function without it. The stress I am talking about in relationship to your need for relaxation is what I call negative stress.
People with cancer suffer a lot of negative stress. There are many sources:
• fear of dying
• loss of ability to work, which may lead to financial insecurity
• pain
• changes in appearance
• changes in relationships
• mental confusion
• "life-and-death" decisions that have to be made
• less energy
• less mobility
• severe physical symptoms
• feelings of aloneness
• anxiety about medical or surgical procedures
• anxiety and nausea before and during chemotherapy
